Creating a Cross

Creating a Cross

I had an idea for a special and meaningful cross to make for my parents, as a way to showcase my ideas for metal art. In seeing a lot of different and beautiful cross designs across the internet, I decided the base definitely had to be of horseshoes. I then came across bags of mason nails at a flea market that worked perfectly to fill in the space! Some decorative bronze wire and a candle holder added the perfect finishing touches I wanted!

Scroll through to see some of the process!

Initial layout of the base horseshoe cross model.

Added the nails; they are made in groups of 11, totaling 99 nails, a spiritual detail I made sure to have!

Decorative wire wrapped and candle holder in place!

A look at the back of the cross, where all of the welding took place.

Because this cross was being hung on a wall, I made sure to install rubber bumpers to protect both wall and cross from damage.

Welded the sawtooth picture hanger right to the cross. That's not going anywhere!

Final assembly.

And finally, this beautiful cross has been installed in it's final location! It greets all that enter the house!
